⬤ Do I need to get a residence permit after my work permit is issued?
Work permits issued by the Ministry of Labor, Social Services and Family or by public institutions and organizations authorized to issue work permits in their legislation are considered as residence permits as long as they are valid. The expiration date of the work permit is also the expiration date of the residence permit. Foreigners who do not extend their work permits or do not obtain a residence permit in accordance with their new status are deemed to have violated their residence permits.
⬤ If my work permit is canceled, will my residence permit also be canceled?
Since the work permit is considered as a substitute for a residence permit, it is not necessary to obtain a residence permit as long as it continues. However, if the work permit expires, the foreigner has the legal right to apply for a residence permit for another 10 days like a residence permit. If the foreigner has both a work permit and a residence permit, if the work permit is canceled, the residence permit is not canceled and provides the right to legal stay. He/she can stay legally until the end of the residence permit period.
⬤ I have a work permit. Can I study in Turkey?
If the foreigner who has a work permit meets the conditions for obtaining a student residence permit, he/she can benefit from the rights provided by the work permit and student residence permit.
⬤ How many months/years should I have a residence permit in order to apply for a work permit?
The Ministry of Labor, Social Services and Family can apply for a work permit from our country, except for those who are entitled to apply from within the country within the framework of legal regulations, if you have a residence permit that has a minimum period of 6 months (except for short-term residence permit for tourism purposes) and is still valid.
⬤ Do foreigners need to make any notification when a work permit is considered as a residence permit?
According to the article twenty-seventh of the Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, work permit and work permit exemption confirmation certificate are considered as residence permits. Foreigners who obtain such work permits are obliged to register with the Provincial Migration Administration within 20 working days from the date of entry into our country.

Foreigners under temporary protection may apply for a work permit or work permit exemption six months after the date of issuance of the temporary protection identity document.

Foreigners with refugee or subsidiary protection status may work independently or dependently from the date of obtaining status, without prejudice to the provisions of other legislation regarding the jobs and professions in which they cannot work. The refugee or subsidiary protection status holder identity document also replaces the work permit and this is written on the identity document.
⬤ I am a student in Turkey, where do I apply for a work permit?
Associate, undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and doctoral students studying in Turkey may work provided that they obtain a work permit. However, the right to work for associate and undergraduate students starts after the first year and is regulated by the relevant law. Applications are made to the Ministry of Labor, Social Services and Family.
⬤ Can master’s and doctoral students studying in Turkey apply for a work permit?
Master’s and PhD students studying in Turkey can work if they obtain a work permit. Students who obtain a work permit are exempted from the obligation to obtain a student residence permit during the validity period of the work permit. However, the foreigner must obtain a student residence permit when the work permit expires or is not extended.

Foreign football players and other athletes and coaches whose requests are approved by the Turkish Football Federation or the General Directorate of Youth and Sports do not need to obtain a work permit during their contracts.
